Each year the PTA sponsors a creative arts contest called "Reflections." For the contest students are asked to submit an artistic piece that reflects the year's theme. This year's theme is "Heroes Around Me." Students can choose to enter a piece in one of six categories: • Dance choreography • Film production • Literature • Musical Composition • Photography • Visual Arts The piece they submit will be judged to find grade level winners, then primary grade winners and then school wide winners which allows for your child to win in multiple categories. It is a really fast and fun contest. Projects are due by November 5th. As an incentive, students who choose to participate can submit a project in place of homework for one week. If you wish for your child to participate, please let me know which category or categories you are looking at and I can email you the specifics for that category and an entry form. We hope you will consider participating in Reflections this year.

October 11th is an early release and we will be doing our second STEM activity. The book Five Little Pumpkins is a classic Halloween or pumpkin themed staple for the fall season. This Five Little Pumpkins STEM challenge is perfect to pair with it too! We are going to see if they can get 5 little pumpkins to sit on the gate or fence that they build as a group.

If we could get pumpkins and simple building materials donated for the class STEM challenge that would be amazing. The students will be working in 4 groups so I will need 20 small pumpkins for the activity. If every child could bring in at least 1 pumpkin that would be helpful. See the picture below to get an idea of what we'll be doing.

Supplies we will need are :      20 mini pumpkins
20 Paint stir sticks (Home Depot)
                                                 Clothes pins
                                                 Cardboard
                                                 Wood Craft Planks

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Don't Forget Foundation Catalog Sales continues until October 12th.
We all need some beautiful wrapping paper and great treats to eat.
Please continue to support the Foundation.
